Help Promote and Protect the Vote

Poll Workers Needed

The Ohio Democratic Party is assisting boards of election with their recruitment efforts.  There are more than 800 precincts in Franklin Co. that must have a democratic presiding judgeIn addition, 2 or more additional democratic poll/precinct judges at the roughly 820 precincts in the county.  Similar situations exist in all of Ohio’s major metropolitan areas.

Let’s face it, regardless of our efforts to get people to vote early, there are those who will wait until Election Day.    The combination of new voting machines, thousands of first time voters, lengthy and confusing ballot issues, etc. will no doubt contribute to delays in the voting process.  Add to that the anticipated voter challenges by republican judges and other attempts to suppress the vote and predictions of long lines and confusion will certainly become a reality.  We must have smart, confident, alert, diligent, poll workers.

If you or someone you know is interested in being a precinct election official, in Franklin Co. you can apply on line at http://198.30.81.211/boe/precinct-official/index.aspx.   We are tracking applicants referred through our recruitment process.  Let us know you’ve applied by emailing barousey2@yahoo.com or the election protection office promotethevote@ohiodems.org .  For other BOEs visit http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/elections/boeDirectory.aspx.

Poll workers participate in the election by overseeing the voting process.  Having competent people in those positions is critical.  Ensuring that qualified voters are given the correct information and are allowed to cast their vote is a function of that position.

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR

Neighbor to Neighbor, an exciting new tool that allows us to print off lists of our neighbors to contact about this campaign and this movement.

I know sometimes the political process seems impossible, superficial, and worse. But we’re changing that. We’re building a campaign of the people, by the people, and for the people.  So please take a moment to learn more about how you can help with our new Neighbor to Neighbor tool, here’s the link:  http://my.barackobama.com/n2n

Great Idea!  CARS and CAKES for GAS CARDS (Fundraising)

Starting now, YOU can help someone get voters to the polls on election day, even if you don’t drive!! While the weather is warm, host Car Washes and Bake Sales to raise money to purchase gas cards. ALL AGES CAN PARTICIPATE IN THESE PROJECTS. Let’s not allow high gas prices to discourage people with the time (but not the funds) from volunteering for this valuable way to help Sen. Obama. Gas cards can be donated to local campaign headquarters, churches volunteering their vans/buses to take people to the polls, or individuals helping transport voters within their own neighborhoods. Please schedule as many car washes and bake sales as you can, purchase $10 gas cards, and work with local organizations to assure everyone can make it to the polls.

This is an opportunity to talk to Nancy one on one and learn how her experience can benefit Gahanna if she is elected to the Ohio House of Representatives for our district, the 20th.  The Democratic Party plans to work hard this time around to take our district back from the Republican, Jim McGregor. If we can get a Democratic majority in the Ohio House, there is a better chance for the economic and social progress that is currently lagging in Ohio.
